Hong Kong’s way to play with words: We are using a Mongolian Khan to describe Ass-cracking super-long-haul flights
When I am writing this article, one of the latest super-long-haul flight, the epic 19 hours flight from Singapore to Newark is on its way, very first time.
Due to new technology, we have longer and longer flights, and it is a trendy topic on my Cantonese news blog, Gaus.ee.
However, many friends find my expression to such long haul flight very funny, as it can tell the agony of such long flight very well.
The word I used is not so straight forward, it is actually the name of Mogolian Khan who invaded China in 1270s, named Kublai Khan.
The funny part is the name transliterated into Cantonese, it is “忽必烈”, and Cantonese speaker may just add a character ahead “屎忽必裂”, ending up “the ass must be cracked”.
So we provided a very visual nickname, either “Kublai Route” or “Crack-ass-route” to describe such super-long-haul-flights, something probably we get more and longer.
